“I bought a ukulele on a whim. I have a fantasy of writing love songs, and I suppose if there’s any time to try to live out my fantasies it’s while on study abroad in college.” -my travel journal, Sep 19, 2009
As an artist, and as a person, it becomes increasingly seductive to try to transcend who we really are. We pretend to be cooler, deeper, and more talented. “True Stories & Songs For The British” is my attempt to not be those things. These songs are immature, but try their best. They’re vulnerable and honest. They romanticize my insecurities. And hopefully, in the end, are relatable for the audience (all of you). I hope you all decide to download these and listen to them on your iPods. I think the ultimate fulfillment for this work would be these tracks squashed between Lady Gaga and Coldplay. These songs were written and recorded in the Fall of 2009 while I was on study abroad at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, England. |
