Sketches from 2010

Punk Diptych
Two drawings from 2008 that I rediscovered in a portfolio. The guy on the left is based on someone I went to school with, and the ones on the right are from a magazine article about the 70's and 80's punk scene in New York.

the less you struggle the more it frees
Three drawings from a greater body of work that I didn't like as much (I ended up using the text in them for other projects, it's okay).

The castle is referenced from the back of the Scottish £10 note.

Van Gogh
A sketch of Vincent van Gogh, as played by Tim Roth in the film Vincent & Theo, which is why he's a bit more burly than you'd imagine Van Gogh to be.

I've been obsessed with Van Gogh's letters since I visited the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam in December 2009. I read the book on trains going from city to city in Europe. I feel a strong connection with Van Gogh's desires and earnestness to be an artist. This amazing man, this beautiful and honest and heartbreaking man.
