Theater Work

Technical theater work is a strong passion of mine. My goal is to mix my two loves, art and theater, into a cohesive path in my future. Here are a few documentation photos from some productions I was part of a team in producing.

Baltimore Theatre Project
Baltimore Theatre Project, Technical Production Intern, Baltimore, MD, 2008

The summer of 2008, between my freshman and sophomore years in college, I worked as an intern for the Baltimore Theatre Project. I worked under the Technical Director. I did work in carpentry, rigging, electrics (lighting), sound, props, wardrobe, and maintenance. I also assisted with working front of house and speaking with clients. This experience is irreplacable and I will use the knowledge gained there for the rest of my life.

I worked on approximently 20 shows over the course of the summer, 13 of them tied to ArtScape, a weekend arts event in downtown Baltimore. I also assisted in hanging two art shows in the lobby gallery. One of the art shows, Healthcare for the Homeless' exhibition, was written about in the Baltimore City Paper.

The photo to the left is the last show I worked on at the Baltimore Theatre Project. The show was the Baltimore Sound Art Festival, featuring live music, slam poets and art creation. You can see a portion of the light board and the monitor; a sort of behind-the-scenes look that I always had.

In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre
Set and Puppet Construction Intern, In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre, Minneapolis, MN, Summer 2007

The summer after my graduation from high school was spent in an internship at In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre. In that internship I assisted the art director and staff artists in the construction of puppets and sculptural displays, as well as assisted in the building of a set. Working with that creative group of people was an unforgettable experience.

The photo to the left depicts my first week at In the Heart of the Beast. I assisted in the building of a 15-foot puppet (requiring five people to operate) which was used in a short skit at the Puppeteers of America Conference.

I also assisted in creating a Lake Street exhibition at the Minnesota Historical Society. Here are a few images of that display (click to enlarge):

Georgia O'Keeffe: An Abstraction for Theater
Theater tech hand for set, prop and puppet construction and sound board operator for the Perpich Center for Arts Education Junior Theater show, Georgia O'Keeffe: An Abstraction for Theater, Golden Valley, MN, 2007

This show was in my final semester of Senior Year at the arts high school, Perpich Center for Arts Education. It was an original script by students of the school based off of Georgia O'Keefe's life. It was an experimental theater piece with strong visuals. I worked closely as technical assistant to the director.
